Cleveland, Ohio — Where the Race Made History

Our Derby Skies journey brings us to Cleveland, the finish line of the historic 1929 Women’s Air Derby. Here, thousands gathered to welcome the pioneering pilots after nine demanding days and nearly 2,800 miles across America.

During our visit, we will explore the International Women’s Air & Space Museum, conduct historical research, and document the final chapter of the race. We will follow the Rocky River and examine the landscape, historic airfields, and landmarks that guided the pilots toward the finish.

We will also rent an airplane and take to the skies—flying through Cleveland’s Class B airspace and viewing the final race route from a pilot’s perspective.

Cleveland represents more than the end of the race. It is where courage, grit, and aviation history came together—and where the legacy of these twenty remarkable women continues to inspire new generations.
